Tips and Tricks
Tip 1 - Quick Access Points
The CardDeluxe Taskbar Applet is a resource that every DAL customer should know how to use. This applet is the red audio card icon located on the taskbar next to the Windows clock.
Right-clicking on this applet will provide access points to load the CardDeluxe Configuration Box and Help File. There are also links to the DAL website and support email address.
If for some reason you would like to uninstall the CardDeluxe Taskbar Applet, hold down the Control key while right-clicking on the applet. You will receive the option to uninstall the applet.
Tip 2 - Input Monitoring
Note: Driver version 5.10.3522 or newer is required when using Microsoft Vista to input monitor. Previous driver versions did not have input monitoring faders accessible for Vista users.
The CardDeluxe will allow monitoring of the Analog and Digital inputs. By default these monitoring faders are muted in the Windows Sound control because adjusting these settings may cause feedback loops in some scenarios.
1. To setup Input Monitoring open the Windows Control Panel and double-click on Sounds.
2. Select the Playback tab and double-click on the output you wish to monitor the signal through (CardDeluxe Analog or CardDeluxe Digital).
3. Within the Output Properties box, unmute the input you wish to monitor. Bring the fader up to the desired level.
Tip 3 - Recording an Online Stream
There are many instances when it is desirable to record what you are hearing through your playback program and CardDeluxe outputs. Many audio cards cannot perform this function because the playback/recording software application will take exclusive control over the audio device. Fortunately, in many ways Windows sees the CardDeluxe Digital and Analog sections as different devices.
To record audio from a playback program or website application:
1. Make sure the CardDeluxe Analog is the default playback device in Windows Sounds and Audio Devices (Windows Control Panel) and your audio playback program.
2. Select the CardDeluxe Digital as your default recording device within your recording application. If you do not have a recording application you might want to try a free program like Audacity before you purchase an expensive software package.
3. Connect the S/PDIF Digital output to the S/PDIF Digital input (RCA style connectors) with a S/PDIF coax cable. You will now have a coax cable connecting the Digital input and Digital output of your CardDeluxe.
4. Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click on Sounds.
5. Select the Playback tab and double-click on the CardDeluxe Digital output.
6. Unmute the Analog Wave Out fader and turn it up. With this adjustment the CardDeluxe Digital output will now transmit the signal that is being sent to the CardDeluxe Analog Wave output.
You should now be ready to record a stream because the Digital output will now monitor the Analog Wave signal. The Digital output will feed into the Digital input via the coax cable mentioned in step 3.
Remember to use WDM or MME compatible recording applications because ASIO drivers will take exclusive control and not allow your webstream or playback program to output.
